Quote: "Handing a significant victory to the Obama administration, a sharply divided federal appeals court on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit challenging Boeing Co.'s role in flying terrorism suspects to secret prisons around the world in the CIA's "extraordinary rendition" program.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals cited national security risks in its 6-5 ruling.

A protection for those who engage in torture, thats all this is.. you are now free to torture without impunity...

so 3 of the 5 tortured were freed..... innocent men tortured... and we try to position ourselves as the moral authority...

We are we what we have criticized. a nation that tortures.

this is sad, just like when the tele companies got off scott free for sharing our information with the government.

if companies are not held responsible for their actions, they will continue to break the law in the future.

does that make you happy Chuck?

The innocent ones who were tortured? the 3 released as innocent? Certainly were not terrorists, unless you have heard to the contrary.

Terrorists... what a blanket statement...

That is what Obama calls them.

Is this about anymore than you can't sue Boeing as Joe said it there any difference between Boeing and AT and T. The suit was not about stopping the Government from Rendition. The Obama administration does not want to limit itself and it does not want to divulge some information they deem critical. The terrorists still have a course of action and it would seem they will go to Supreme Court. I would think the SC will chose not to hear the case as it does not seem that the law is that unclear or confusing.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has ruled that the CIA cannot be sued for torturing prisoners. “The sharply divided ruling was a major victory for the OBAMA administration’s efforts to advance a sweeping view of executive secrecy powers. It strengthens the White House’s hand as it has pushed an array of assertive counterterrorism policies, while raising an opportunity for the Supreme Court to rule for the first time in decades on the scope of the president’s power to restrict litigation that could reveal state secrets,” reports the New York Times.

John, are the Obama people using the rendition option as we speak or is that behind us. Obama said he was against it. As far as I know Obama has also said he will not use EIT on any prisoners regardless the situation. If you are hanging by your toes he will not use EIT to find you so you have won.

So what are you talking about. All Obama is saying is that he does not want to expose something he can change his mind about later. What is wrong with that.

renditions etc blah blah should never have become public knowledge all this should have been left in the hands of the experts and not the lawyers who don't have a clue (just like the public)

I think it was kept pretty low key when President Clinton developed the process. It really didn't blow up until later under Bush. And we really don't know how much he used it. He was just shipping them to local Iraq prisons and Gitmo.

Once in while the 9th circuit gets it right.
