My new charger has the option to charge via the cigarette lighter instead of the hassle of pulling the back cover, etc.
Is this safe or ok with our old cars?
Its a high end smart charger with three settings 2/4/8 amps so it should provide safe power.
Charging the battery via the cig lighter. Safe?

Gary,
I have been using 2A smart type trickle chargers that way for years and never have had a problem. I use them on my Bs and my motorcycle.
Cheers,
Rob
I would say that, as long as you stay under 10A, you should be safe. The cigarette lighter circuit should be able to handle that much.

I use Deltran Battery Tenders on all my bikes and would like to charge my new-to-me B as well. What brand and model do you use on your B?
Regards,
John
Thought I would share this, I just picked up a battery charger from HF that you mount directly on the car, hard wired to the battery. On it's side, there is a socket to plug in an extention cord to plug into 120v ac. I thought it would be good to mount without always having to plug in the regular charger. They are on sale for $9.99 w/coupon. I haven't actually mounted it yet but will probably mount it in the trunk.
