Anyone have pictures of how the choke linkage is supposed to be run and how it attaches to the air cleaner assembly? I have pictures from my car as it was but don't want to assume it was done correctly and that section of my manual is missing.
Thanks!

This is what I have on short notice. Note that the choke does not attach to the air cleaner assembly, but to the bracket attached behind the carb. The wire comes in from the bottom, through the linkage, and anchors to the bracket, not unlike the hood cable.

Edit: Note that the return springs are not "proper" here, though they work nicely.
Edit #2: Note that I still had the old, dry-rotted brake booster hose on when this pic was taken, causing a significant vacuum leak. I used a vacuum pump to check it, and it wouldn't hold any vacuum at all. You might want to check your hoses, given their age. IIRC, the booster hoses are special to avoid collapsing under load, as opposed to fuel lines or heater hoses.
Not to be picky but the "bracket" is the heat shield and there should be notches below a verticle aspect of the springs to indicate a more authentic factory installation...altho I like Toms set up as well....
Yes and the vertical notches are in a separate bracket the bolts to the heat shield steady bracket and, well you get the idea. Picture on page 03.B of workshop manual. I dont know a thousand words.
Cheers
Ron
What am I missing here, guys? Are you saying that the choke setup I posted is non-standard? Or just the springs?
Missing that page Ron, so I need the missing 990 words from you. <grin>
So cable comes up from the bottom, through the "cylinder" on that choke linkage? The cable is then routed up through the bracket that attaches to back of the carb?
That's the way mine was. I don't know if Ron and Robert were implying that is non-standard. It sure worked well, though!
Tom's
The choke linkage looks correct. The springs drop down in a vertical line to 3 little tabs that are on a bracket that attaches where you have your bottom springs attached. Not a real issue as I am sure they work but just for info.
By the way from the picture that MGB brake mcyl does stick right out there in front of that rear carb.

Ron and I are embedded LBC and MGC owners. You are a profoundly gifted and knowledgeable MGB owner and newbe to the C....THAT said, your springs are correct but they should attach on a verticle plane...IF you want to score those bonus points at Amelia....
For stop light racing you've done OK!
PS, what both R and R are trying to say is you can follow the bottom of the "bracket" and find a notch or two to which the hook of the spring attaches....hope that helps!
Well, I may not be the veteran that you guys are, but I think I am out of the newbie woods, as evidenced by my pointing out the springs were incorrectly installed in my post!
Anyhow, for Tom D's benefit, the return springs should attach to little "hooks" made of flat metal that clip into notches in the bottom of the heat shield. If you search the archives, you can find out where the guys pointed this out to me the first time! IIRC, your unit had them on right when you got it, but I am not certain.
As for the choke cable, the bracket has the screw built-in that holds the cable in place. If you look at the pick, you can see that the cable, after running through the hole in the choke linkage, continues up to the bracket at the back of the carb and is held there by a screw. I forget the name of that sort of piece, but it ought to be obvious if you look at it. Also, to clarify, the bracket is the bit that goes behind the carb and into which the air filter retaining screws thread.
Tom
I think that Robert was referring to the missing bracket for your springs. The choke linkage looks to be correct. Look closely at the attached picture and you will see the bracket for the springs. The top edge is hidden by the carb vent line.
Just to muddle things up a bit... On Ed's car the parts are all there, but not quite the way the factory did it.
The heat shield goes on top of the return spring bracket. The tabs that the springs hook into actually hook around the edge of the head shield.
And the drain tube from the front carb overflow goes under the heatshield to a bracket on the rear pair of engine mount bolts.
Working on pictures of all the accesories and plumbing for later.
C Ya,
Mark
