MGB: Classic Conversions Four Link Installed

Pete and I finished the install of Classic Conversions four-link rear suspension on my 1974.5 MGB/GT V8 conversion this afternoon.

Only unplanned activity in the install was the re-design of the battery box to give the right upper link full range-of-motion. (This would not be necessary in a chrome-bumper MGB ).

The only welding involved was for the tabs for the upper link-to-differential mounts.

As it sits, the kit lowered the rear of the car by about 2 inches..and there are adjustments that I can make to lower the car even more. (This will wait until the front crossmember is installed)

All I need for the rear suspension is a pair of Rusty's rebound straps.

Looking good Rick. What will be interesting is how it performs vs the standard MG suspension.
Bill alerted me to the required RB battery box rework and possible relocation for the axle breather, brake lines, & fuel pump (depending on individual chassis layout).
My CCE 4-link resides on the shelf in the garage and is first on the Winter to-do list......should be starting in about a month.

I'm anticipating good things...This differential should not be able to move laterally at all.

The breather on the Ford 8" differential did not come into play...and no change was needed. This, of course, may not be the case with an MGB differential....

This is what the battery box now looks like....a Group 26 battery still fits nicely.

Rick,

That looks great! Wish I could find an 8" around here.

Tom....I can check some of the U-Pull-Its here in central Illinois for you. (Pete and I am due for another Junk-it trip anyway.) Mine came out of a Danville salvage yard. I paid $75 for the unit (but that was a few years ago).

If I find one, I can pick it up for you...and as you know, I'm only a couple hours south of you.

Around here all the junkyards get bought out by Currie Enterprises. As soon as they get an 8" in stock, it gets shipped right back out.

Pete and I will ***probably*** be going to the salvage yard next Thursday, weather permitting.

Tom...PM me with your financial limits if you want me to find/buy an 8" Ford differential for you (no guarantees there will be one to be found...we'll visit at least 2, maybe 3 yards.)

Mine originally came with a 2.79 ratio. Loooooooong legs!

;)

PM sent. The pick n pulls up here are loaded with 8.8s ($39 every Wed for any rear end) and a few 9"s. Haven't spotted any 8"s though. Figures that's the preference. Could use a good excuse to come down and visit.
