I would like to clean and paint the rear end, but need to know what needs to be covered up first. I would like to use easy oven cleaner then blast it. I have every thing removed except the cover on the back holding the diff oil in. I do have it down to wear I can see the spindles.

Wrap towels tightly around the axle ends and pinion shaft. Duct tape works well for the blasting part. Also plug the breather on top of the axle.
