It was a bad starter which caused the car to start slowly then not at all. On going in to replace that, I noticed a leaking clutch hose, so had one sent overnite. The starter not only starts, but spins much quicker than the dead one ever did. I had a local mechanic replace the pinion seal as I am spooked at going there in an MGB (other cars don't cause the sweat). For $50 and a seal and new crush bearing, the leak is gone and Wow! so is the clunk that used to come on putting the car first into reverse then again on going forward. The mechanic felt that the exhaust rattle was something broken loose in the muffler, but on examination, it seems it is my rear hanger. I have the sound almost totally gone now.
Life is better!

SHHHHHHHH! You know that you just jinxed yourself don't you Chris. These things can not be spoken of openly, your car 'knows' things.
