I have a Crane XR700 electronic ignition that came with my car along with a crane ps20 coil. I measured the resistance between the neg and pos terminals on the coil and got 4.4 ohms. Instructions say between 3 and 4 ohms for an internal ballast resister coil. Does the 4.4 sound ok? Not sure what an un-ballasted coil would read. If internal then I don't use the OE ballast, right?

Fuel guage. All my other guages read ok, well the temp does, but my fuel guage reads only a little over 1/4 full with a full tank. I installed a new sender unit. If I short the sender wire the guage will read full. If I ground the old sender unit and move the float up, it reads full, but when it is all hooked up and just reading the guage with power on...barely over 1/4. Any ideas out there. I would really like for this to work...obviously! There is a ground wire hooked up on the sender unit too and it is a good ground.

Thanks

Russ

Just a shot in the dark - have you tried replacing the voltage stabilizer with a new solid state one? The fuel gauge is powered off the voltage stabilizer. The case of the stabilizer is the ground. If its loose, then it can cause problems, and if the stabilizer fails, or is failing, it can also cause problems. A new one is less than $20, and would eliminate that as a cause.

Also, I believe the gauge itself is grounded. Are you sure that ground is good?

I have a similar problem - it was the float itself. It was a brand new float, sensor, and tank. The new float has a leak in it. It will fill partially with fuel and never read above 1/4 tank.

I was thinking stablilizer, but wasn't sure what all it affected. Guess that is a next step, thanks. I have 2 sending units and both of the floats are fine, but thanks for the suggestion, you never know!
