I have purchased a new Commission No plate as the old one was almost completely worn off other than the numbers that are either engraved or stamped in.

And there is my question does anyone know if the numbers should be stamped or engraved?

Stamped, I believe, from the backside.

My 73 commision plate is stamped from the top. VIN plates are raised lettering from the backside.

Embossed. Stamped from the back like a credit card or dog tag.

This is a picture of a commission plate. The numbers are struck from the top. I have no idea what kind of plate you guys are looking at that are tooled from the bottom unless you mean the VIN plates.
