Ditto on both Aston Martins.
They are the absolute coolest cars ever.
Could never understand why they went with the BMW in one of the Bond movies.

Sorry, but Christine wasn't a real Fury - she was a Belvedere in thin disguise. The real Furys were all the same color - a sort of sandy beige with beige/brown/gold interior, a gold anodized accent spear on each side, a gold anodized grille, gold accents on the wheel covers and some of the chrome trime was tinted gold. They all had the highest performance engines available in Plymouths, starting out with a few that had a mechanical fuel injection that was very troublesome, so immediately all were switched to dual-quad carbs. I'm not sure if any actually made it to market with the FI. Also, they had a 150-mph speedometer which none of the other series shared, and the steering wheels were off-white with brown grips on opposite sides, not found in other series. Furies were produced ONLY in a 2-door hardtop style from the first year, 1956 thru 1958, before the name was downgraded to replace the Belvedere as the top sedan line in 1959 and the Fury line was supplanted by the "Sport Fury". A convertible and other color schemes were added in 1959 to the Sport Fury line, and the big engine became optional at that point as well, and the gold stuff and the 150-mph speedo disappeared.

Almost forgot:

The age of "Product Placement" Film makers have discovered a way to get free cars to crash and get paid extra to do it. It is all about the money.

The Bond Beemer is in the "Zentrum" (museum) at the BMW plant here in Greer. It was practically hand built, pre-production in the South Carolina plant. Oh, and BMW here is said to stand for "Bubba Making Wheels"

I forgot that. You are talking about the one James Garner drove ? Wasn't that one of the ones you could rent back then?

Speaking of Garner, The Firebird he drove in Rockford files needs mention. If nothing else it had some sort of record for times in the bodyshop.

But most of those cars are plain old everyday cars-cars that you were likely to see around your own hometown. Nothing really special

Feb 10, 2012 08:25:02

Really, other than movies that used "special cars" like MAD Max, Deathrace 2000, The Fifth Element and some racing movies, pretty much all of the cars are ones you could have seen in neighborhoods at any given time.......

The customized 81/82 Dodge M4S Turbo Interceptor concept used in '86's The Wraith. Charlie Sheen was young and not so troubled back then.

Likelihood of seeing a Toyota 2000GT, a Volvo P1800 or an Aston Martin DB5 in my neighborhood is pretty slim. Mustangs, Camaros and Mopar stuff was common

I guess it could also have some to do with where a person is and what's normal to you..
I grew up in the Air Force (Dad was career and I joined after high shcool). It seemed that every base I was at had a few Captain or Major pilots with P-1800's.
My wife is British and her father was an officer in the Royal Engineers - In the 70's - 80's Jags, Morgans, Aston Martins, though not common by any means, were not that uncommon either.

It's all perspective I guess. The Ford Consul 3000 listed in the original post, though a common sight in England at the time, would be as strange and interesting in Omaha as a Pontiac Grand Prix in Glasgow.....
