Owned this 1970 Miget one week, just saw this today. This cover is attached with silicon. What is under it? Should I be worried?

Nothing to be worried about there. The cover just seals out the engine compartment from the foot well. The original cover was a stamped steed ltem retained by four screws. I made up an aluminum cover for my car as see in the photo, you can do the same if you want. You probalby should have access from time to time to lubricate the pivots for the clutch and brake pedals, just a drop of oil now and then to keep them from binding up.
Bill, what is the bleeder screw and stainless line for in your pic? Something good to add I hope.
Dave
That'll teach me to speak for Bill!:D That's even a better idea FWIW...
Ken, what's going on with the cover to the CMC?
Actually that's a remote bleeder screw for my clutch slave Dave. It was such a hassle to bleed with my conversion because of clearance down under I moved the bleeder up above so I can get better access. The bleeder screw and housing came from Speedway Motors and the rest is just some braided stainless teflon line I already had and a couple of fittings. Here's what it looks like underneath.
Rob
I'm not sure. I noticed it didn't look OEM. I have been have a problem with the clutch not disengaging completly. I have bled the system and it didn't improve. Could this be the incorect CMC?
The picture doesn't tell me enough but the problem would probably lie with perhaps a worn push rod into the master or a similar length issue at the slave. One needs a second person to see how far the slave pushes the throwout bearing arm and then determine if there are intenal leaks to the slave.
Robert, I see what you're refering to, that resevoir does't look "right" for a Spridget and the body of the CMC looks way too small compared to the CMC shown in the photo of my car. I always thought that the Spridget cylinders were unique because of the angled mounting flanges, are you aware of anything else that had the angled flange?
An inncorrect but serviceable CMC could come from a host of BMC vehilces or even another. It has been common practice to substitute certain other parts when a particular part goes NLA. Going NLA doesn't imply it will not one day resurface. But it was exactly the picture first posted and the view of yours that made me think something is possibly awry. I am very challenged at picture IDs and rely on the kindness of others to provide better informed observations.
Most of what I carry are the vaunted better quality from TRW who seem to have taken over the former Lucas/Girling hydraulic division. Regardless of TRW or the plain white box items they are all being made in Asia as far as I can discern. My suppliers insist that the cheaper white boxed items are as good and have few if any return issues.
I sell a lot more new units than kits and with the possible exception of the rear wheel cylinders I frankly don't know why. A kit at $5+ and the little time to install it correct is still a better deal than a new, perhaps inferior to OEM, hydraulic component. I do understand why garages prefer to replace rather than rebuild but I don't understand the hobbists reluctance to rebuild and spend the extra $100 or so elsewhere on their restoration....but that's just me....
Robert, the kit phenomina might be due to the fact that it's relatively easy to hone out a rear cylinder while on the backing plate and they can be a real pain in the butt to replace because of that d***ed clip. :)
