Howdy Folks!
I have my cylinder head in the shop getting the unleaded conversion treatment done to it, due to a) a leaky head gasket (not related) and b) due to some poorly seating valves and seats. In the meantime I have been thinking (which is probably not good in itself) and I have a couple of questions:
1) Do I need to or should I replace the cylinder head studs? The nuts seem to run down fine with no binding.
2) Is it worth it to get the head ported and polished? Does it make enough of an improvement to warrant the cost?

Thanks in advance and happy Father's Day,

Trent

Don't replace the studs unless you can see obvious damage of the present ones. The new ones aren't worth a damn unless you get high performance or competition ones. More guys break new studs than old ones. Our heads don't torque to yeald like new cars and the studs don't have near the stress on them.

Port & Polise by itself want make much difference. You have to do lots of other thing to go with it for it to make a real difference.

Tom, do you do port and polish jobs as part of your shopwork? If you do, how much money are we talking about for a head rebuild and port and polish?
