Is there anything special about the vinyl used on the dash top? Can I just use a local source for the black vinyl???

Local source and good grade stuff. I used some stuff from a fabric shop. Just be sure it's heavy stuff with a good strong backing and the grain pattern is fairly well matched t the dashboard material.
Accually the vinyl that was used is relatively thin. You wouldn't need it to be a thick heavy vinyl as it wouldn't look right. There is no wear factor to consider as nothing will ever be touching it. I would get a good grade , but not a heavy duty type.
I haven't noticed, but if it is a thick vinyl it wouldn't give the original apperance, would be some more difficult to work with, and is totally unnessary.
I think he means up on the cowl between the edge of the dash pad and the windshield, anyway that's what I responded to.
Hell, I think I'll paint it....
Picked up the vinyl (which is what they refer to it as in the restoration manual) but I ain't saying if it is thick or thin.....or plastic...
