MGB: Denver "air"

A cubic foot of air up here just doesn't have any friggin oxygen in it!

Took the 64 out for a spin, first time since the carpet kit went in and I got the seats back in here. you all may remember I had the car dyno tuned and found another 5 hp, she did 86 at the rear wheels. So as healthy as she is, and as smoothly as she drives, I am still a little disappointed and wish I was at sea level.

Handles well and just generally drives very nice and by the way, Kumho Powerstar 758 tires are NOT performance tires but they are a nice touring tire.

Supercharger will compensate for the power loss.

You have no idea. I've been over I 70 many times and even with a modern car at 11k feet there is no power to be found with out forced induction. I picked up my 73 b from idaho falls which is about half way to the summit at 7k feet and I was barely able to tow it out of there. Steep hills + no air = 25 mph in first gear. It will be interesting in a carbed car.

I feel your pain...
5700ft ASL here.
What octane fuel are you running?
I run 93 RON (88PON) up here but 95RON (90 PON) at the coast, and she still seems a bit lazy when I drop too close to sea level.. Next time i spend more than a few days at the coast I'll try giving her a tune up, I want to feel the power! :)

When I drove the '78 MGB out to Tahoe in '95, we passed through Denver, Glenwood Springs, etc.

I had a single HIF6 on the MGB combo manifold.

I leaned the carb out.

I had no power going up slope...and coasted to incredible speed going down slope. Kind of like a roller coaster ride.

Made for an interesting trip.

I have been talking to Paul Dieschow at Sportscar Craftsmen about altitude tuning sessions at his shop before the event. I also talked with John Twist at MG2008 about it. I believe John and Paul will be working together to provide tuning sessions both before the event and up in Breckenridge.
This is another reason why I am encouraging you flatlanders to get to Denver a day or two early (both for your cars and your lungs). I have also written a tour from Denver to Breckenridge for Wednesday that is a great drive. The tour will take you to Dinosaur Ridge where you can view visible tracks in the rocks, Buffalo Bill's grave, over the road where the MG-F was altitude tested, through old mining towns, over the Continental Divide (at over 11,000 feet) etc. and into Breckenridge.

I ran part of the drive last weekend for a sampler for the AGM in 2 weeks and it is a fun drive.

I should have the registration information on the web site soon after the AGM this month

The Annual General Meeting of the North American MGB Register.

THis meeting is now typically held in the area the the next year's convention will be held, in order to give the Executive and local club members a chance to get together; review plans and sites; etc.

The AGM is also where general elections are held (this year for Vice Chair and Secretary)...as well as other matters of business for the Register.

Interesting and enjoyable weekend if you can attend!

Both Connie and I are looking forward to the trip both later this month and next June.
After the first of the year, I'll start mapping out possible routes, hotel stays, etc.
