Hello all -

Has anyone changed the original gauges - not just replacing one with a new one, but a different one altogether? I am thinking of replacing my clock with a volt meter.

Take a look at this link and his gauges. There is a very good close up image about half way down.

interesting - he put gauges where the heater controls are. I think I will keep those. Could get rid of the cigar lighter, not a smoker, but I use it for trickle charging.
Decisions, decisions . . .

There are lots of Smiths guages that are more or less the same size that will fit in the same hole. One other good option is to put them where the radio would go. Be very carfull about mounting them under the dash as the driver's knees could hit them if the car is in an accident.

I swapped out the crappy painted black bezels and bought smiths polished crome, and swapped out the clock for a smiths volt meter on my1978.

not the greatest pic, but we switched to autometer, even rounded out the oil gauge, and put the clock and voltometer where the heater knobs were.

It is interesting in that he still has the heater box and fan, etc. I wonder where the heater controls are???

However, I bet the heater does not get used much in America Samoa

Robert,

Correct in saying I do not use the heater controls in American Samoa, but I finally found an electronic heater valve. I just placed the order today and will have it in 3 days. I will end up doing away with the old heater valve and place the electronic controlled heater valve in between the hoses. There will be a dial switch located on my dash that will open and close the valve. Simple electronic setup.
