MGB: Distributer color? +starter and gen.

This is for my early '65 B. So does anyone know the true original color of the distributer. Mine is painted black, but somehow I suspect it wasn't supposed to be painted at all since it's an alum. case. Also wondering about colors for the starter and the generator. I've heard engine color for both, but have also heard black. The 'Original MGB' doesn't say and the pics are only of restored engines with varying color schemes. I am planning on leaving the end brackets unpainted since they are alum. Is this correct or was the whole thing painted? It seems paint has trouble staying on alum. since all the alum. that was painted is flaking away. Thanks for the tips.

Ameer, I would say that Gordan Stricland knows the answer. He is an old brit mechanic and Englishman that runs the B-Hive. It's mainly an mgb parts place and garage but they have a wonderful website **with weekly and monthly internet specials on various mgb stuff. I bought a good thermostat+gasket from them. Check it out!! They're in Clemson, South Carolina, and can ship fast. One of many b places. Aren't we lucky to drive a b?

Your distributor was probably painted black from the factory, seen quite a few. I would probably just go with it unpainted. The generator should be oxblood red, same as the starter. Both will require repaints if you buy rebuilds, they are resprayed black. Oxblood is a tough color to come up with from a rattle can though, may require having some mixed up for you.

Is that the color Moss sells as early engine paint? They sell rattle cans.

Thanks guys. I think I will leave it unpainted, except for the vacc. unit since it's rusty now. I could tell it was painted after b/c there was a lot oversparay inside where there shouldn't be any. Ya, I also got the oxblood from Moss. The guy who rebuilt my engine painted it bright red, so I had to do it over with the right color. Thanks again.
