Hi Barry,
V6, V8, I4?
Not difficult to remove on any engine. Generally one bolt and a couple of wires plus the cap.
Yes it will require to be timed afterwards.
-BMC.
Before removal, set engine timing mark on TDC and note the position of the rotor relative to firing on #1 cylinder (with the cap removed). As Brian mentioned, remove the clamp and bolt and extraction should be simple - on dizzy removal, the rotor will turn as the dizzy gear unmeshes with the oil pump/drive gear.
Distributor replacement should be straight forward as long as engine is still at TDC and you maintain the original rotor position. I think one of the main problem issues is that it is easy to get the distributor gear off by one tooth and timing becomes problematic.
Check the timing on your car before you remove it. Leave the clamp tight to the distributor when you pull it out, and I'll send you the distributor back with the clamp in the exact same position. Then you just bolt it in and reset the timing (may be off a few degrees). If you check the timing before you pull it, then you have your timing marks clean and visible so its easier to reinstall it, and you're familiar with the process.
