Hey Folks,
Finishing up this Thanksgiving weekend project with my dad, thought you guys might like to see. This was setup for the race car with 8 foot long ramps (low angle). The main pillars are made from 2x12's with 2x12 for main ribs every 15 inches and waffled with plywood on both sides they are screwed and liquid nailed together with 5 lbs of screws (they are 10ft long). So far they haven't made a peep driving on them... Building 4x6 waffled with 1/4 inch steel plates for cross bars so that the car can sit on the frame while on the lift. One leg is wired with two indoor flood lights and outlets. The entire cost of the project went as follows. ramps & main legs 16 handles, 12 casters, wired, featured, and spar urethane coated = $416, lumber from home depot, A special 2,000 lbs transmission jack modified to lift the car while on the lift (31.5 inch lift) - after online rebate 250 bucks from harbor frt. Four .25 inch steel plates 6ft long waffling two 4x6's for cross beams, drilled and metal shop = $105 bucks (complete assembly) totals = $771 bucks. I can pull a B engine, drop front cross member or rear diff with this setup. Should make painting way easier up in the air, and best of easily movable on the casters. Anyway wanted to share the project......

Cool Brandon, you'll have to show us pics with the car on and jacked up, I thought of doung something simular for years.
Hey Hap,
Here is car up on the lift and 2-ton trans jack I use to set it up on to cross beams, you can see the cross beams along the sides they are 4x6's plated with .25 inch steel plates
Nice, I think even my rotund self could slide up under there :)
Youy know, you could even expand on that in the future, make you some turn table for the front wheels, soe string alingnment attchment, I see you have lighting and electrical underneath, I likey :)
That's nice!!! Its cheaper than a 4 post lift and you can get it out of the way if need be. Also you can see how things look as if it was sitting on the ground,
thanks guys, yes the big key is to be able to setup the panhard rod, shocks etc with ease. would like to add in some turntables as Hap mentioned would be great,
any pics from underneath with the crossbeams in place? I am having a hard time picturing where you rest the car on them.
very nice idea all you need now is a ice box for a cold one and tv:thumbup:
That's a super job Brandon. I'm sure you will wonder how you used to cope without it once you get used to it!
How much does one of those boxes weigh?
Are the casters on the bottom (looks like on the side in the second pic...you flip them over to move them?)
Hey guys, yes I just knock the boxes over to roll them around. I wouldn't think they weigh much over 100lbs each. I will put the cross beams in place after the holidays have to get the motor out first then will post a pic.
Nice job Brandon I would not have a second thought about being safe working on the car under there.
