MGB: Drum Brake Repair

OK, This is slightly on topic, but not really. My girlfriend has a 1993 Buick with rear drum brakes. Apparently, the people at Tire Kingdom told her that the rear seals were leaking and that she needed new shoes (complete brake job done 1 year ago with new shoes, lines, etc.). Also, when her dad took his car to the same shop, they said the same thing about a different car. She's thinking that the guy was just trying to get her to have more done, and wants me to check it out. I've never really worked on brakes much before, especially drum brakes.

How hard is it/how do I check the seal to see if they are leaking. Is it something that I could mess up and cause brake problems? I don't want to make more problems than I solve.

Thanks,

Mike

Pull off the rear tires, pull off the rear brake drums ( you may have to back off the auto-adjusters a little) and look. If anything is leaking, it will be obvious.

Tire Kingdom!!!

Good God, Man. Go somewhere else. They are trying to screw you. It's an easy job to check yourself. Find a trusted local mechanic, go to Pep Boys, Midas. Don't go to Goodyear, Firestone and don't go to Sears
