I went to a local airport to see Duesenbergs race today. It was the largest gathering of Dues in one place ever in the world. Also they had a b-25d Michell bomber fly in and land as well.It was so cool to see these cars race side by side it was amazing to see.

I'm bettin' no one "got under another and put him into the wall"?
Nice picture of the B25 too. My son and I flew in the last B24 Liberator a couple of years ago. Was an awesome experience.
I can bet that whole "rubbin is racing" thing didn't play with those boys!!
No Duesenberg pictures?:( That would have been pretty damn cool to hear those big ol' straight 8s roaring past
Thanks for sharing Jeff !
Those Auburn's and the Cord in the picture are great, but do you have any of the Duesenbergs?
By "racing around" do you mean that they were actually out on the air strip having a go at each other. If so it must have indeed been a wonderful sight, but my heart would have been in my throat thinking of all that money swerving around each other on old biased ply tires.;)

In my opinion they were the most elegant of all the "great" cars.
I remember seeing the old magazine ads with a drawing of a very
wealthy appearing gentleman on a sail boat or hunting with a gun
dog etc and the caption always read, "He drives a Deusenburg".
I've been fortuante over the years in seeing and hearing a few of them.

George, all the words in the world can't convey what a Duesenberg really is.
What is amazing to me is that the Brothers D never built a coach and yet their bare engines and chassis had such an effect on the people who bought them and the coach builders that clothed them that there was never any mistake that these machines were at the very top of the heap.
Some of the European coach builders could design and execute some awfully stunning curves, and some of the domestic folks, like Miller and Stutz could build some machines that were at least as technically advanced, but there is something unspeakable about any and all Duesenbergs.
The only things that come close, IMHO, are the larger Bugattis.
I have had the great fortune to be very close to several of the Bugs and a few of the Duesenbergs and I recommend the experience to any gear head that has a soul.
Have you ever had the pleasure of standing in front of that green full out engine and chassis that I hope is still sitting in the ACD museum? Taking a box lunch, a couple of beers and a deck chair to go spend a spell communing with it might be de'classe but if I could do it my days would be made.
Jack
Beautiful! You can see now why they coined the phrase "She's a doosey".
The S and SJ Duesenbergs were one thing.
But the earlier Model As and derivatives were quite different. And fewer people know about them. Duesenberg was also a racing powerhouse when Fred and Augie were running the show. Won the French GP in 1921 IIRC.
