Well, I'm one step closer to understanding the email problems....tonybarnhill@aol.com works fine....however, a few days ago, AOL put a block on all forwarded email...ergo, tony@theautoist.com is forwarded to tonybarnhill@aol.com & AOL blocks it....back to AOL to raise AO-HELL!

So, now both my email addresses work:
tonybarnhill@aol.com
tony@theautoist.com
...just the forwarding link to AOL for my 2nd address is disabled until AOL corrects it on their end...

Well, anything's better than AOL. Even other dialups are likely to be faster, more reliable, and hassle you a lot less than AOL. There's a reason that company has the reputation it does.

Cable, however, is one of those things that you can never go back from. If I had to get on a dial-up now, I'd probably just take up knitting or something instead.
