I'm with Rick. We just got through with my son's and I told those kids to elope too, but no, they spent her father's money (and a good chunk of ours) on what was admittedly a great wedding, but they really could have used that $$$$ to get themselves set up financially for a better situation. Oh, well.

The wedding industry is atrocious, in terms of psyching people into spending loads of money for a one afternoon/evening event. Take the fifteen-twenty grand, have a small family ceremony, and put a downpayment on a small house or condo.

However, I hope you daughter does have a good ceremony (ceremoney).

You're a good father Rob. That's a great looking MGA.

Bus ticket to Reno or Vegas....a FAR better investment. If it doesn't work, they'll know their way around town to undue the deed...;)

BTW, I just read that cup cakes are the "in thing" to replace the bakery tiered items....Red Velvet and Chocolate are top ranking....I'd redo the nuptials for a German Chocolate:bouncing:

What Mr. Carley said. That is what I did many years ago and the bonus was that rather than an expensive hangover, I had a nice downpayment for a house. As my daughter gets older, I seem to take more and more interest in the ladder section at home depot!

This is my second marriage for both Jean and me. We chose to fly to Jamaica and got married in Negril in 1993. We had three friends that chose to come down to the island with us, and they paid their own way. Attendees at our wedding consisted of the preacher, our witnesses (my best man and Jean's "man-of-honour"), the wife of my best man, and anyone on the beach who wanted to tag along.

Yes..we got married in our swimsuits....and I had a cumberband and bow tie; Jean had a veil and a garter...and a great wedding bouquet. Our actual wedding cost us about USD $250 (legal papers, wedding cake, etc) and our 7 days in Negril, including flight, was about USD $2000. We stayed at Sandals. We could have spent thousands on our wedding...but chose not to, since we had both been through the "song-and-dance" before.

I understand that wedding days are important...and some folks are really into the ceremony, pomp, and circumstance...but do feel that common sense needs to prevail so that no one is put into potential financial dire straits.

Also glad that I have two sons, and not two daughters.

:)

You must like the son-in-law better than the MGA.

Hope he lasts 50 years like the MGA did.

Still stuck in Hawaii...

If you don't have any luck by next spring/summer let me know.
