John and I drove up to Effingham Regrinders and picked up the rod bearings they re-babbitted for us. They regrind crankshafts and camshafts for cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, and small engines of all kinds and ages of engines. I have never seen so many cranks, cams, rods, and such in one place in my life. John Deere, Alfa Romeo, Packard, Pierce Arrow, Case, Onan, Suzuki, Model T, and about any other make of American iron past and present you can think of. The shop is very neat and clean for such an old place and it really isn't very big. I don't know how they come up with camshaft specs on an uncommon 1911 car engine or some of the farm power plants but they do. They can regrind a camshaft to any profile you want too. I wish I'd had my camera with me when I left the house this morning. John and I were headed for Kentucky when Regrinders called about the bearings. Instead of going another 30 miles South and turning left he made two lefts right where we were and went North. I don't know if we'll ever go up there again.

Question is......why would ANY sane forefather name a town "Effingham". ;)
I had "assumed" Illinois as it is only a hop, skip, and jump from Cape Girardo, MO.

You're right Rick, except Effingham is not a PC word for the original name of the place.
