Hello I'm a new guy. I just purchased '79 MGB. It runs real good
but it will run the battery down overnight with nothing turned on. I rode Triumph motorcycles for years so I know about the " Prince of Darkness" Bu8t this thing has me whipped, I found nothing in the archives so maybe someone on here has had the same problem.

If yours has a functioning trunk light I'd go for that first. Next I'd try unplugging the alternator when it's going to be parked long enough for the problem to reoccur and see what happens. Other than leaving something turned on there's not much else that can do that unless it's that the battery has a weak cell and it's running intelf down.
Thanks for the reply. I have takin out the bulb in the trunk. I will try the alt. next. the previous owner put a new alt. on it already. I've put 200 miles on it with out a problem , then the next day its dead, btw it's a new diehard batt.

Unplug the seatbelt buzzer, it's behind the radio. My 78 would loose juice in the same manner and I eventually found that it was draining (without making noise).
thanks .that is great because the buzzer mysteriously quit working but I never checked it out because I was glad it was gone.

Before I did any of the above, I'd check out the battery. I'd make sure it was fully charged, then remove the ground lead and then leave it alone over night. If, in the morning, the battery is still hot, then you will know that the problem is in the car. If it is dead as before, then you need a new battery. Do the simple things first

1985 turbo Ranger? OK, 2.3 is stock, turbo from XR4Ti or T'bird TC? How's it run? My Pinto about to start mutation to Pinturbo, via full transplant from an '88 TC.
On your problem: sometimes you can locate something like this by touch. With everything cool and the battery fully charged, just feel around, put skin on everything you can. Anything warm or hot is a likely candidate for the grimlin.
Or you can measure for voltage across the fuse terminals.
1. Remove fuses
2. Measure for voltage across terminals.
3. Any voltage showing is going to be going somewhere as a current
4. Now you know what circuit to trace down.
