Is there anything around the distributer that would give off a burning smell, while the car is running?
I just put the manifold, header and new exhaust back on about a week and at first thought the smell was new paint and oil. Now, I seem to think something around the dizzy is giving off a burning smell. Last night I saw a puff of smoke that seemed to come from the right side of the engine near the tranny tunnel. I've felt around in that area while the car is running to see if I could feel part of the harness or component getting hot. I do know, I have some sort of electrical problem with the alt. The light never goes completely out, and gets brighter with higher RPMs. I also think that I have timing issues to work out, some backfiring, somewhat rough idle, hesitation on throttle, etc.
Any thoughts on what to check?

As for the smoke, donno. Noting in the distributor that should be able to do that. Looks like you've got a diode problem in the alternator, maybe some Brit quirk I don't know about. That last line all looks carburetor related to me.
John,
The starter solenoid is just below the distributor, and that's where the main lead from the battery connects with the rest of the harness. You might have a look there to make sure there's not a chafed wire or something....
HTH!
Rob
You know it could be a loose connection there too. All power, coming and going, passes through that junction.
There are several wires in that area. The rear harness passes through that area as does the tranny harness. It a situation that a set of eyeballs are going to have to do some probing.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll keep looking! I will let you know if I spot anything odd.
