I was going to fit an electronic module to my BGT but on investigation I found the dizzy was well worn, unsurprisingly.

I looked about on the web and found a complete dizzy with electronics fitted for a bargain price in the UK. I don't know how it would compare with US prices, but shipping costs may be a killer.

Sorry, this one is a bit fuzzy.

This cost me £60 plus shipping from http://simonbbc.com/automotiveshop/mgb I have no affiliation with this firm.

I haven't fitted it yet so cannot comment on performance but the build quality is good.

Owen,
Have you seen the 123 electronic ignition? Does this one do pretty much the same thing? The 123 seems to retail at about £200, so your one seems good value.
I was reading that they do a 123 model specifically for the MGB although people were suggesting using the alternative model for brish cars, will have to seach it out and do more investigation.
My car needs a good service and was thinking of electronic ignition at the same time.
Keep us all informed on how it goes and your thoughts on it.
Tony

For those looking, I can get you these for $185 (which is about 125 pounds) Here's the company's pitch:

This is a New High Performance Electronic Adjustable advance 45D4 4-Cylinder distributor. Finally you will be able to get the perfect advance that is needed for your car. Each distributor can be adjusted from 18 degrees advance to 30 degrees advance to suit your cars performance and fuel needs. No more having to guess on where to set you distributor up. These unit are a straight advance with no vacuum unit. Modern Japanese electronics have been combined the Lucas 45D4 Distributor to give you the best of both worlds, maintenance free ignition with the original look of your British Distributor. Some distributors offer a 12 month warranty; this unit carries a 36 Month Warranty, this is the longest in the Business! Very simple installation, two wires, no cutting, just plugs in and go! Note: This distributor will only work for Neg. Ground Cars. 41427

That distirbutor you have is a brand new Chinese 25D, with an absolutley TERRIBLE advance curve. It offers up roughly 42 degrees of crank advance, plus timing at idle, plus around 18 degrees of vacuum advance. The electronic ignition hopefully has a good warranty - you'll need it!!!

Actually, it's a Lucas 45D and the electronics are supposed to be Japanese. Do you know something we dont? Thanks.

Tony. The dizzy is in. I broke the timing light before I could get it properly timed so used the time old method of pointing the rotor at No1, firing it up and tweaking the dizzy till it ran the best.

The car runs better than before even with the rough and ready setting, but how much of that is down to replacing a worn dizzy with an unworn one is anybody's guess.

Once I get a new timing light I'll hopefully see a bit more improvement.

If this is the best it gets, I'm happy and no worries about points :D

Looking at the pics, I think Jeff meant Owen's dizzy. The cap is the earlier rounded top, not squared like what you are offering

Basil, that's the same distributor that Moss, obviously BP Northwest, and everyone else sells, with a really, really inexpensive copy of the Pertronix in it. The one I had here recently fried shortly after it was installed. Sorry, I'm not impressed. Again, its the issue with poor quality Chinese spring steel giving very inconsistent timing results from distributor to distributor. You never know what you're going to get.

Jeff, just so I understand better-- the round vs. square shaped cap does NOT indicated a 25D vs a 45D? Or is it just the repos???
