I've probably R&R MGB engines 10-15 times over the years. Not lots, compared to someone like Brad Pace or Hap or others who wrench on these things all the time. But maybe more than the average forum member.
And it has always been a fight getting the front mounts off/on. More of a war getting them on than a battle, though.
today i yanked a lump from a 71 GT. And I tried something I'd not tried before. The RH mount connects to a bracket on the engine, two 5/16 bolts to the front plate and a 3/8 bolt to the block (that's 1/2" and 9/16" bolt head or wrench size). I undid these 3 and pulling the thing up and out was somewhat easier since I hadn't have to wrestle with the angled fasteners on the mount itself.
Well, this lump isn't going back in this car. (destined for a V6)
But I am wondering if anyone has reinstalled a motor handing the right mounts that way. Seat the LH mount and let the engine rotate until the bolt holes are right on the other side. Sure beats a 6 foot pipe and twisting the mounts all cockeyed.. Or does it?

I am going through the same thing on My 78,turns out bothe mounts were seperated so I will be replacing them,Gonna have to look it over tomorrow and see what it is going to take to get the nut off the L.H. side as it is under the steering shaft and did`nt look to be like it was going to be real fun getting it off.
The oil pan had been leaking and the threads for the drain plug were totally gone so i got the pan off and welded a nut to the outside of the pan over the drain hole so now I have an actual drain plug instead of a rubber expansion thingeymabobber.LOL
Martin, your mount is not the same as the one Mac describes.
To replace your LH mount, its easier to remove the steering shaft. Mark the splined areas first.
