Here's a good one for you history guys. I got the engine number off the 70 BGT parts car today.
18G-RWE-H33015
Now that doesn't seem to match up with the year. This car is supposed to be unmolested but you never know. I do know the last owners; they lived across the street for 15 years. According to them, they were the second owners.
The build date on the Vin tag is 3/70. It has OD.
The Vin is GHD5UA204114G. The head had an air rail, I can see the ports that are plugged.
As Vinnie Barbarino would say, "I'm so confused"

The engine tag is for a '63 B with overdrive. That would mean its 3 main bearing unless the tag has been swapped.
Looks like one letter on the tag was stamped way out of place, almost at the bottom of the tag. We suspect it's an 18GJ, California market engine. I wish it was a 3-main. It only has 60K on the engine. I'd slap it in the Magnette.
While I was looking for a used engine I saw a 18 GH that was stamped that way and others on this BBS have too. So I guess thats the way it came from the factory.
Some factory rebuilt engines have additional numbers/letters stamped below the engine number...believe they were called 'Gold Seal' engines...will have to consult my engine book when I get home tonight
...& factory or dealers sometimes exchanged engines before car was sold or afterwards on warranty issues
Tony - "Gold Seal" engines were the factory reman engines. They were painted gold (go figure!)
