what do the engine numbers codes translate to please ie 18GBUH xxxxx is my engine #..thanks

3rd generation, preceded by 18G and 18GA.
18GB is (c. 1964) 1st 5 main bearing, pre exhaust emission control (18GF) and revised endplate beginning w/18GD.
H is high compression.

The U stands for center gear change (floor shifter), H stands for High Compression. From the BMC parts book that I have that dates back to '65. RAY
