MGB: Euro Spec Dizzy

Here's the lowdown on the new Lucas Dizzy I had installed before turning the 79 B over to the shop. When they were trying to tune the engine, the diagnostic machine showed that the timing on the firing of the plugs was different for each cylinder. One would fire at 10 BTDC, the next at 20 BTDC, etc. The bar graph on the machine for dwell showed a different level at each of the 4 openings of the points. When I got the unit home, I put the dizzy in a vise, and with a strong light, and magnifying glass, you could actually see a slight difference in the point opening, and a slight wobble of the upper shaft where the rotor sits. I think even a electronic ignition conversion kit would give unequal timing. Without a diagnostic machine, I'm not sure how I would have ever pinpointed that problem. It goes to show that even brand new parts have to be checked out thoroughly..

Can you send it back?

Hmmm, sounds like it was made on a Monday morning at Lucas. :>)
I got mine from Brit-tek last year, dropped it into my 69 without a thought, and it has run rock steady ever since.

My first guess is that the shaft is bent. Second is that the cam lobes were ground on a worn or misaligned machine and don't all match specifications. Either way you neet to send it back and get another one.
