Here's the lowdown on the new Lucas Dizzy I had installed before turning the 79 B over to the shop. When they were trying to tune the engine, the diagnostic machine showed that the timing on the firing of the plugs was different for each cylinder. One would fire at 10 BTDC, the next at 20 BTDC, etc. The bar graph on the machine for dwell showed a different level at each of the 4 openings of the points. When I got the unit home, I put the dizzy in a vise, and with a strong light, and magnifying glass, you could actually see a slight difference in the point opening, and a slight wobble of the upper shaft where the rotor sits. I think even a electronic ignition conversion kit would give unequal timing. Without a diagnostic machine, I'm not sure how I would have ever pinpointed that problem. It goes to show that even brand new parts have to be checked out thoroughly..
