Mr. Barry

So, on my 18V engine, a PO installed a Facet-type fuel pump...I had one in my previous car, and it would build pressure, and be silent...This one runs all the time.
There is no fuel overflowing, and no fuel odor...Doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere, so where's the fuel going?...Car runs fine....
I notice that this is only a two wire pump...is it correctly wired?
Thanks for help.
Edward

Mine runs continually as well....has been since I installed it in 1998. Has never let me down.

Facet pumps are not the same as the SU diaphram style pumps that shut off & on - the Facet, like most aftermarket pumps (Holley, Mallory, etc) works continuously supplying fuel as required.

Facets have a bleed feature in the check valve that prevents pressure build up due to lack of flow from overheating the pump. They all do it, even the old type big ones that are used on airplanes.

Two wires. One hot one ground. That's all you need.

Thanks for the info...This one seems a lot noisier than my last one...I think it must be where it is mounted...
I may address that at some future time.

That's the big complaint with Facet pumps - they sound like a miniature jack hammer. Try putting rubber washers on the mounting bolts.

Good idea...I'll try that as soon as I can.
Thanks

They can be mounted so that they're not noisy. I can barely hear mine even with the car in the garage and the engine not running....

Don't like the noisy Facet pumps? Try a Mr. Gasket like the one below. Looks like a Facet, mounts like a Facet, but is a rotary pump, not an interrupter type like the Facets, and much quieter. Almost too quiet, if you are used to the usual racket most other MG pumps make, loud or soft. FWIW

BTW, the new Facet pumps (to replace the older style "cube" pumps) look like this:

Where are these rotary pumps available...?

I have one of those and one of the cubes mounted inline....and can't tell by the sound which one is switched on. Unless I'm in the garage with the engine off, I can't hear either. I did have one of the cubes earlier - and didn't have it mounted so it was as well isolated - and there was no problem hearing it! :)

@ Edward - I bought mine for my truck from O'Reilly's, but the internet and others offer plenty of other opportunities to get one. Just do a google search.

@ Joe - The Facet cube and new plastic bodied pumps I have used for years both make plenty of racket until back pressure is reached and then shut up. It may be matter of which pump comes first in the chain if you have them inline as to whether the Facet will rattle. If it is the second, perhaps that is why it is silent.

What's the pressure of those pumps? Is that not a concern if you have a Weber carb?

they make rubber mounts for the pumps.....it is bolted to a frame and then with the cushion between the other bolt - a rubber sandwich.

I don't remember the exact pressure, but the low pressure versions of both the cube and the newer model are fine with a Weber....around 3 psi as I recall. I've used both styles with both a DGV and a DCOE with no issues at all. Just be sure you get the correct pump. Higher pressure versions of the same pump look identical...

Twin SU's need under 2 lbs (1.5 to 2)...At least the HIF 4's... I will probably stay with the Facet...I don't like where one of the PO's mounted it, and I think that is the problem...It is too far forward, not as close to the tank as it should be....
I will make a rubber sandwich to mount it on, and move it rearward.

Can you provide O'Reilly part numbers please. I read an article by Dave DuBois that referred to a back-up pump, installed in-line and hooked up on a single pole, dual throw switch. I might do that.

The Mr. Gasket fuel pump is part #42S at O'Reilly ($44.99), and it's shown as 2-3.5 psi. It looks very much like the Facet/Purolator pump - so it's probably made by them.

I bought my Facet cube pump(#40105) online from Aircraft Spruce because they were cheaper than anywhere else...

Last week I ordered a spare Facet cube pump for the Wolseley. Researching online I ordered from Yacht Supply Depot in Flordia.

37.95 + 12.95 (freight to CA). 50.94 total. Cheaper then a lot of other suppliers. Should be here tomorrow.
