Marine reservist chases, assaults Greek Orthodox priest whom he mistook for an Arab terrorist.

Alexios Marakis, a Greek Orthodox priest visiting the U.S., got lost in Tampa and tried to stop and ask directions from Marine reservist Jasen D. Bruce. But instead of offering help, “Bruce struck the priest on the head with a tire iron.” The reservist believed Marakis, who spoke limited English, was an Arab terrorist. Bruce chased the priest for three blocks, “and even called 911 to say that an Arabic man tried to rob him.” According to a news release:

“During the chase, the suspect called 911 and claimed an Arabic male attempted to rob him and he was going to take him into custody,” a Tampa Police Department news release states. “When officers arrived, the suspect claimed the man was a terrorist.”

Police arrested Bruce for “aggravated battery with a deadly weapon” and are investigating whether he committed a hate crime.

The fear tactics used by who, the media or the Islamic Terrorists who shoot and kill innocent soldiers at an Army base in Texas?

I have no doubt of that fact, but Joe blamed the attack on fear tactics.

Oh, it's the same fear and hatred that we used to round up 120,000 Japanese and stick them on little camps throughout the western U.S.

With that said, there are stupid people everywhere, and obviously, this reservist falls into that catagory.

Ive stayed away from topics such as this, but maybe some of the "opinionated'' might consider listening to a guy who served our country in Iraq and spent 23 yrs in service to the country-----------Thats all i want to say

He was charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder, no terrorism charges. Sorry your just wrong, its a mass murder, much like Columbine.

You must have missed the part that stated that there may be more charges coming, but, currently intel has it that it's just 13 murders.

I don't think it matters whether they charge him with 13 murders or a terrorist attack, the outcome will be the same. Whichever is easier to prosecute will be used to get a conviction. But in my opinion, it was a mass murder carried out by an Islamic extremist. You can call it terrorism or not, but the majority of people will see his religion as a contributing factor.

Did you look at the religion of the Columbine shooters and bring that into play? How about the Virginia Tech massacre, did you look at his religion? Those are just 2 examples.

People snap regardless of religious affiliation...

Jeff Dahmer wasnt Muslim, neither was John Wayne Gacy..

I note that Obama is going to try the Terrorists in a civilian court with our rights. But the man who is being tried for blowing up the USS Cole is being tried under the military rules.

Dahmer and Gacy are a different catagory, serial killers, they don't fit in this discussion.

The Columbine shooters felt bullied by the victims they were targeting. Their anger built up over time, but it wasn't as random as the Ft. Hood killings.

I didn't follow the Virginia Tech story, so I can't comment on that one.

In either of these two cases, were the shooters in contact with a known terrorist? In either case, did they shout "Allah Akbar" when the shooting started?

You dont know what was going through this guys head, you dont know why he snapped.

Do you know that the KKK is a terrorist organization, devout followers of Christ, who use the very symbol of Christianity to sow their hatred. And yes the murdered anyone they deemed unfit. And when burning the cross they say prayers, not to Allah, but to Christ.

It works both ways..

What about US Postal shoootings, and other mass murders that happened in the US, you can do a quick google search on this. Was religion a factor?

Charles, can you definitively rule out ANY link to Islam? No, the facts aren't fully known, as you've stated. So why are you so inclined to ignore the possibility? I'm open to any information or theories at this point, including Islam or "he just snapped". To ignore the possibility is just not objective.

There could be a possibility, but so far they have not made the linkage. He could have possibly been hearing his dog talk to him, we just dont know. But to link with Islamic Extremism is not fair at this point. I was just stressing that mass murders happen, there are triggers, we dont know the triggers, and in the past we have never brought in a religious affiliation in any of the mass murdering sprees.

Charles Whitman 1966 University of Texas gunman murdered 14, wounded 32... he was an alterboy in the Roman Catholic church. But we dont bring his religion into the fold.

Thats what I am saying..

John Hamilton....yes Gacy does too, he was a good and caring liberal "it's for the children" Democrat. He knew how to run other peoples lives better too...He knew the meaning of "fair and what was justice"...it's just unfortunate some disagreed.

"Gacy spent part of his leisure time hosting elaborate street parties for friends and neighbors, dressing as a clown, and entertaining children at local hospitals. He also immersed himself in organizations such as the Jaycees and the local Democratic party. As a Democratic precinct captain he once had his picture taken with First Lady Rosalyn Carter."

I was talking about those who snap and go on killing sprees. Gacy was a long term serial killer, not a spree killer. I never looked into his political leanings.
