Looking at the paperwork that came with the 63, it is a document that gives me ownership of the car, but not a title. There is a section that says that if I want to put it back on the road, I have to have the WA state police inspect it, then they will give me more paper (and a bill no doubt) to take with what I have now to get a title.
I just want a nice simple title; I buy a car, whomever keeps the car and I take the title. Er, wall art.
Otherwise, it will become a parts car for the 66.

Hmmm...What a PIA Titles can be Chris.

I wouldn't give up though. I guess you have talked to the Wa. DMV about it. It would be a shame to part out a solid 63???

Oh, I don't know. The 66 has clear title.

I would talk to other locals about this.

Many states do not issue titles for cars over a specific age. They only have a bill of sale. Ohio lost half the old title documents in a computer SNAFU. They gave me a new one on trust.

These cars must enter your state all the time.

Ohio has to inspect every out of state car that is transferred in. It is no big deal. There was an officer at the title office.

I had my car inspected when I moved to Idaho in 79. The sheriff did the inspection at no cost.

This may be no big deal.

I've been through an inspection up here in Washington with my utility trailer and my boat, but not for the same reason as yours, and it was pretty painless. I think my fee was around $30, but that was some time ago. In the for what it's worth department, get the car running and should you come up next summer for the ABFM in Bellevue, trailer the car up as there is an inspection station in Tacoma. If you need some help on this end, let me know.

I'm on it.

Chris guess you do not have any extra VIN tags that you have tittle for.

Jim, I'm sure you are kidding. But here in the US advising to, or advising how to commit a crime can be illegal. Sorry, once a cop always a cop. Not trying to be a hard a**, just want to make sure no one thinks switching VIN tags is a viable alternative.

I read once that broadway title can get a title for you, never used them but some on the board have.

I'm told some states will not accept Broadway Title. I used ITS, International Title Service for a car and while it cost a couple hundred it was legal and relatively painless.

If you're putting some effort and money into making the car a good one, why not put some effort and and money into making things straight-up title-wise?

I am putting some time and energy into making it straight up title wise. Heritage tubs can be used with a title and number plate. A used tub is just a part, like an engine block.
In TX, some cars are registered/titled by their engine number instead of the body number; my TR3A is an example. Legal is a rolling target.

I registered a 74 BGT in Kentucky once, even though I had a notorized VTR they charged me the low book on a classic MG from NADA. The low book was $6895.00 and I had to pay the tax on that amount. A deputy checked out the vin and mileage, then I was off upstairs to the clerks office to get raped in taxes. You can buy titles from a place in Alabama, that's what most people do when they build a hotrod out of an old car.

Back when I lived in WA I once bought an old beater for parts without a title. I was just given a handwritten bill of sale that I took down to a local title place and applied for a "lost title." I paid a small fee and got my title in about 3 weeks.
