Th Air pump was long gone when I got the car and you dont want to know let alone see what the PSO did to solve that problem..... well I have spent some time looking for a way to do a nice clean job and am not happy with what I am finding. So what have others done to solve this problem

I forget the thread size (possibly 7/16-20), but you can find socket-head set screws that will do the job at a good hardware store.

i got these brass bolts (top of pic hopefully attached below) off the internet. i like these better than the black plugs...more decorative and looks like they are meant to be there. IMHO.

use 7/16 fine thread hex set screws, about one 3/4 inch long...they go right in and flush with the engine head....make the picture bigger and you can see them closer. Got them at Fastenall.

I used these brass fitting for the same reason. They are pipe-thread fittings that you will find in the plumbing section of most hardware stores, Home Depot, etc. They are one of the more standard sizes so they should be very easy to find.

I use grub screws in mine. You can see them in this picture:

This is what they look like out of the head:

Dem's the beasts - "socket head set screws" in the McMaster catalog (but I don't want to buy 100 of 'em)!

Ace Hardware has them.

Phantomracer on the forum sells them, when I need them I just Paypal him a little money and the mailman hands them right to me a couple of days later.

7/16-20 socket set screws, about 1/2" long, run a tap thru them first, and you'll get a nice flush fit, I use Brighton-Best part # 101541-100 ( the 100 at the end are for 100 count) I think Rusty or somebody that post here sells them in sets of the number needed for a MGB, on Ebay. Flushed out socket set screws look alot better than any bolt you can use, looks professional IMHO. Here's a Midget engine I just finished, with a 12H-1316 smog head with 7/16-20 socket set screws in the air rail holes, Midgets and MGBs take the same size plug size for the air rail holes .

I bought the set screws at McMaster-Carr. I think they came 6 to a box, or maybe 8 to a box. You don't have to buy 100.

Very affordable, and got them in about 2 days.

I used black grub screws, too. The were inexpensive, and seat well.
