After hours of tweaking my rack and with the help of some grease and four come-a-longs, I raised my MG to the point of workability. I have it on tires this time instead of the width-wide padded rails I’ve utilized in the past. This will allow me to get underneath and finish cleaning off the years of congealed road muck that has adhered itself to my ’72 B. I was able to sand-blast most of it off but for the rest I’m planning on using a degreaser and scraping tools. Have any of you had luck with using a particular product for this task?

Simple Green and a wire brush (or several of them). It's biodegradable, and smells nice!

Yep, MAP gas, keep a fire extinguisher handy. :D Seriously, dangerous as it is, I have found heat to be the best tool.
Aircraft grade paint stripper. WARNING: DO NOT get it on plastic, skin, or anything not metal. and dont leave it on the metal very long at all.
Nah, I agree with Wayne. Use some simple green and some elbow grease.
You need some longer rails. That set up would scare the crap out of me.

Yep, I had to extend them by a foot at each end as well as add "L" brackets to keep the car from moving during the lift process. I also lost an "S" hook while raising the car. It did fall forward at one point. Luckily, I was able to get a grip on the headlight hole to keep it from rolling forward to fast and becoming a permanent installation to our kitchen.
If the car manages to move a few inches forward or backward, won't it come off the rails? You're going to be scraping the heck out of the underside. What's to keep you from moving the car? Man, I don't think you could get me to get under that. Wouldn't it be a lot more comfortable if you attached it to a car cradle of some kind and rolled it on its side? Then you could scrape like crazy in comfort and safety. Hate to see you injured by that thing.

I originally considered something like that when I decided I want the car in the air but no cradle I looked at was within my (:X wife's) budget. I built this rack and it has held a car for years at a time. I just recently added the precarious ramps so I could get at areas that were previously unattainable with my old fabrication. I have faith in the car’s present stability but I agree…that may change when I start scraping. I promise to be safe and will provide hospice pics if things go south.
The best degreaser from a long-time friend and body guy at the local Honda place says to use the cheap Easy-Off stuff from the dollar general store. It won't hurt the paint and if you let it sit long enough, it will rinse right off.
I used it in the engine compartment on my BGT and it worked like a champ.
I thought this was an ED commercial for VIAGRA.B)-"
Hey...this is a forum for drivin' B's not Aunt B's!! (:D
There is a product that I've used for a long time now, with great results, called Citrol. You can get it in spray cans or by the bucket. It dilutes down 50:1 if you want. Biodegradable and initially developed for parts cleaners. Made by Schaeffer Oil. No, I don't sell it.
Great suggestions everybody!. I'm sure one of these will work for me. Thanks
