I recently purchased a 73 B to restore with my children, It being a Canadian car has some rust it sat for a decade. Mechanicaly it seems good low miles 79k (for the year). Most of the guys up here in Ontario think replaceing the sills etc. just part of the normal proceedure in restoring a B. After reading posts on this site, it seems that there are cars in the South with little rust but spotty motors. Has anyone ever exported cars to Canada, and how do you find them? I realize buying a car unseen has some risk, but it starting to seem like a good idea to use my B for parts. Thanks in advance for your help.

From what I have read and found, rust is a global problem. I am too in the search for a solid restoration job. Motors, electrical, etc. don't bother me, but body work is a problem. I wouldn't count on Southern cars being too much better. If the salt in the northern roads don't get them, then the sea air or humidity will.

It seems that solid cars are where you find them. Pickup trucks rust out bad aroud here, (Southeast Missouri), but I've had 4 MGBs that were ok. The one I kept was carpeted and even the floorboards were solid. Two had rubber mats and the floorboards were rusted through, but nowhere else. Another had carpets, no rust, but had taken such a hard hit the whole chassis was twisted. Our most snow free areas would be the bottom 2/3rds of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Misssissippi, Alabama, Georgia, and all of Florida. Then stay away from the coastal towns that any of them may have. But there are still more exceptions. Sparsely populated areas of our mid- northern states have a lot of solid cars, but they are mostly Detriot iron. Ted, it's just tough to say where the best area is. Any one of us could just blunder across a good solid B any time, that's how I found all of mine. If I find another I'll let you know.
Eastern Oregon, Eastern Washington, and Idaho have rust free cars also.
I purchased a 1973 MGB in Texas, 4 years ago. It was the original paint complete with a few scratches and dings. There is not a spot of rust on the car. All the parts come off very easily for service. I forget the name of the place, in Arlington, Texas (near Dallas), but at Christmas time I will be home and provide you the details.
