Here's a pic of my 1979.

On the distributor cap, starting nearest the alternator (roughly 9 o'clock position) and moving clockwise:
1, 2, 4, 3

Numbering the spark plugs 1-4 with #1 being nearest the radiator and #4 being nearest the battery

Firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2

You know, of course, that if you go around the distributor CCW it will match what you posted as the firing order!

Yep! Just seemed easier to map it out in a clockwise left to right fashion!

Brian's picture is a good one to show how the wires should run from the spark plug to the distributor but remember that the actual orientation of the distributor can be different from car to car depending on the drive gear in the cam. I like my distributor turned with the vacuum advance pointing toward the fender. It makes it easier to get to the adjusting clamp. The way to tell how your distributor should be oriented is by setting your crank pulley so the timing mark is at 10-12 BTDC then see where your rotor is pointing inside your distributor. It will be pointing at #1 or #4. It is a little tricky changing the orientation of the distributor and it is not necessary as long as you can turn it enough to get it timed properly.
