Didn't have time to fix anything today, but I did have time to break out the trusty angle grinder and had a go at the floors.
While there is clearly a lot to do here, the good news is that the floor can be saved. I'll need to fabricate some new sections near the floor / toe board join and on the side near the sill, but shouldn't be too bad. Most of that is fairly flat.

While your into the floor inspection, take a look on the right floor pan where the center of the forward edge of the seat bottom would be located. The VIN is usually stamped into the floor there. You'll find the VIN unless the rust worm got it.

Yes it can be saved but you might consider replacing the whole thing. get the correct front portion of the floorboard and carefully cut it out and then replace it, you may need to work the castle sections underneath too. How does the rear half of the floorboards look? As you know the floorbaords can be replaced with MGB ones if you modify them somewhat. Not a bad job but not completely original either. Time and money answers those questions.
Just a thought.
Ron
Hi Ron - the good news is that the rear section is in really good shape, only surface rust and not much at that actually.
Will get the car on a ramp this weekend, but my hunch is that the underside is actually OK. The front section went due to the top not being weather tight where as the bottom was shielded from water. It's dry enough here where the underside wasn't subject to excessive humidity (or so the theory goes).
The driver's side floor is definitely coming out however.
Tom
Glad its not too bad, good luck with the repairs/replacement. They all seem to rust out the front floorboards first.
Ron
Made a little bit of progress today. Shiny areas are obviously where I made repairs, didn't get the grinder on all of these spots yet, but the floors too the new metal pretty well. These smaller spots should be hard to spot once they are dressed more carefully and I get POR15 on everything.
The real work is going to be the, as Ron points out, the front lip where the floor and firewall meet and the right side/raised section.

Tom,
I did a similar repair job on my floors last year, what a pain.
You can see some pics in my journal if you are interested.
Good luck,
Bill.
Thanks Bill - will take a look for sure.
Anything stand out in you mind when you think back on the fun & joy of doing it?
Tom,
Just have to be patient, take your time & make steady progress.
Take lots of pics to look back on, it will all be worth it in the end.
It's amazing what can be accomplished with a MIG welder & lots of perserverence.
