Ladies and Gentlemen, this is worth sharing with those of you who have these "very attractive" rubber bumper B's! For some time I've been contemplating adding fog or driving lamps. I've had them on other B's but I could never imagine a good way to mount them on these big bumper cars. At Autozone, (and I'm not a fan of cheesy lights!), I came across a line of "Pilot" brand aftermarket lights. They are cheep (19.95 for mine), and just the right size to mount either in the grill, on the bumper itself, or underneath. They come with a harness and switch, which I didn't use because you a standard lighted toggle can be mounted right on the dash in one of the "blanks" on my 77. No relay is included but not the end of the world. Also, as I was shopping, I found a sunpro voltmeter, which, as one gentleman suggested, would mount directly in one of the holes on the console. I removed the heater temp assembley, since it was never effective anyway! These 2 items at a cost total 35 dollars were fun to install and work!!! Thought I should share.

That was me that suggested putting the voltmeter in the console... looks like it was made for it, doesn't it? But why not the lighter? Seems less useful than the heater.

Sounds like you got a good deal on the lamps, too. I'd still stick a relay in there, but that's a cheap and easy thing to do.

And if you hunt, you can find a stock-looking foglamp switch. Remember jags and some other stuff used the same switches. If you want to get really spiffy, you could put in a foglight indicator light... If I recall correctly, you've got a blank idiot light in there somewhere... I've seen vintage VW shops carry the same type of rectangular idiot lights, and they had foglight indicators.

Yeah! An indicator light. And I do seem to remember a stock switch out there somewhere. That would be the next quest. I sacrificed the heater contol essentially because I have never been able to get it to work properly, so much resistence on the whole assembly etc., plus the fact that I like having the stock lighter plug handy for an occassional 12 volts, but the best feature of the lighter plug is the ability to use the "plug in" cup holder ring, which is the most convenient of it's kind, I've ever run across in my 30 years of LBC tinkering. Thanks again for the great ideas! You really need to see these lamps. Anyone out there visitng the Portsmouth, NH BC show in July per chance?
