MGB: Folding door pulls A brief tutorial

This is a FYI;
Over the years there has been several questions about installing the early type folding door pulls on later vehicles, such as the rubber bumper cars with large arm rests on the door. When I had my last 1980 MGB recarpeted, I noticed how much more comfortable the cockpit was without the center consul and without the door handles. So much more room. When I did my current restoration I purposely left out the console, and installed a crome trim ring. I had ordered the deluxe door panels from Moss, and I was loath to install the large door handles. This was my solution.
I am sure that many of you know how, but this is for those who still have a question.
Remove the door panels
You will find two nylon plugs that hold the large arm rests. Remove them.
Install one of the square plugs from NAPA as shown in the picture. The square plug will fit into the original hole just fine.
You will find a round hole that is next to the opposite original plug hole.
Check to see if the holes align up with the folding door pulls to be installed.
If the holes align up, take a 1/4 inch half round file and enlarge the hole to a square that is the same size as the NAPA plug.
I used two rivits shortened as locator pics to find the exact center in my soon to be installed door panels.
Insert the rivits, and snap on the new panel with a couple of fasteners, and give the panel a couple of smacks to mark the inside where the rivits make contact.
Punch out the holes, and install the panel.
Install your folding door pulls in the marked holes.

This job is really very quick and simple.
Good luck. David
