It's a bit too involved for me to try to rephrase here, but info on tach problems with crane electronic ignitions is on page 16 of the Crane manual.
There's basically two adjustments, one for erratic operation and one for low/slow operation. I don't know if pertronix ignitions are prone to the same problems.
