Hey team,

I have a problem simular to a couple other previous post but i can't pin the problem. First off my car was doing the start...rev...die. I'd start up the car, drive it down the street, then flutter.....die. No matter what gear i'm in or how fast i'm going. This just all of the sudden happend. I was driving the car fine a couple of weeks ago. I tested the pump and it worked and couldnt' find any leaks in my fuel line. I havne't yet messed with the duel carbs (i'm a nooby). I took off the gas cap to check for vapor lock but no go. Then all the sudden the car wouldn't start. The fuel pump didn't work. It ended up being the ground to the fuel pump, which i don't know where it goes. I checked the big grounds but they are good (battery and engine-frame). With this the hazard flasher (in the console) ticks even when the car is off. I figure a result of a bad ground but i couldnt' find it. I rewired a ground from the battery to the pump to get the pump working so i could get the car home. I took me several stops because my car kept fluttering/dying. I'm stuck. Got a new fuel pump out of the deal but my car still doesn't run. haha....any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Curtis

Curtis, got your email earlier. Tried to respond to it but it wouldn't go through for some reason. Welcome to my world of Run, sputter, Die...

I'm putting in another distributor tomorrow afternoon... I'll let ya know if that works or not.

The hazard warning flashers work on all cars with the igniton off or on.

You could have a fuel filter stopping up. Either an in-line of the one on the pickup tube in the tank. If you have points it could be condenser break-down when it heats up.

John,
thanks for the advice. The flasher ticks with the hazzard switch off and the key off.....ticks away. I'm getting fuel all the way to the carbs. I took off the end and pumped into a beer bottle....hahah. <---just turned 21. Hopefully Robert saves me with his distributor.

Your hazard switch has shot craps. Some of the guys have repaired theirs, but I've never had to get into one.

As long as the housing is solid, its not hard to rebuild the switch. Keep track of the direction the H-shaped bridge piece goes in, although if you forget, look at the diagram of the electrical connections in the tech section and it will come to you. Just basically clean the conenctions and any junk out, and it should work fine. Careful not to break the plastic lip on the casing.

Back to basics....first, determine if it's an ignition or fuel problem. If your spark is good and the timing is OK, then you can look at fuel. You'll chase your tail all day and waste money if you're looking in the wrong area. A timing light is almost a necessity. Plug condition can reveal a lot. If a car won't start at all, wet with fuel usually means no spark. Dry usually means no fuel. Good luck.

Vern, cut and dry...

having the same issues, like on another post, I'm off to go through the rest of the fuel system.
