Has anyone installed a fuel pressure regulator on their MG? I ahe a 79 and was wondering do they do any good? I do have the weber carb conversion. Thanks.

You shouldn't need one unless you have converted to an after market pump.

i put one on my 73 as my pump is aftermarket....I asked about this before and Kelvin Dodd (yes..The One and Only) advised me to buy a proper mg pump as the pump I use is too high and compensating with the regulator affects the engine output top-end blah blah....I have to stick with this as its a budget issue....maybe speak to him as hes more Eloquent than me

I put on an after market pump from NAPA. I have had no problems with fuel delievery. Guess I will save my $$$ and buy something else. Thanks all.

Norman....did you measure the pressure output on the new pump? my new one is rated at 5psi so I had to fit a regulator to get it back below 3psi

I put one on my '80B and have it set at 3psi. The Weber requires fuel pressure between 2.5 and 3.0.

Norman.

If you are running the stock SU fuel pump it does not require a regulator with the Weber.

If you have an aftermarket pump see if you can find out what pressure it was rated at. Some are available with the correct 2-3.5 psi.

If you don't know what pressure the pump puts out and believe that it is too high and causing carburetor flooding, then you will need to put on a pressure regulator or change to a pump with the correct pressure rating.

Experiences with the cheap, round dial pressure regulators available from many parts stores has not been good. If you need a pressure regulator, I'd spend some real money for a high quality version such as Holley, or the Italian Filter King.

X2..

the "Filt-O-Reg" types, a large arrowhead on a dial you turn to the desired pressure. Flat does not work for long if at all. Can actually cut off your fuel flow (which surprised me when i discovered it).
