i am working on a 1970 mg b for a friend of mine
it is not starting it turns over but only fires on starter fluid
it has been sitting for 5 years and i drained the old gas out and replaced it
the feul pump clicks a couple times when you first turn the ignition on
and thats it nothing afterwards there is old gas still in the lines
i dont have a good wiring diagram to see if the fuse or something is blown
i cant tell if the pump is hooked up because i dont have a good jack or ramps
it seems to want to work but nothing happens
if you have any info thanks

The original fuel pump that comes on the MGB is a SU pump that acts like you described when it is functioning properly.

First pull the line off the carbs...not sure what you have for carbs? turn the ignition on and see if you have clean gas pumping out and a nice steady flow.

If you do which you should anyways clean the float bowls. Needle valves etc...again don't know your carbs.

Brian - see the article, Fuel Delivery Troubleshooting Guide in the SU Fuel Pump section of my web site at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/ For wiring diagrams, go to Advance Auto Wire at: http://www.advanceautowire.com/ Click on Stock Schematics and scroll down to the print for your car.
