MGB: Fuel Pump Fittings

Found a small leak at the fuel pump on my 74.5 Roadster yesterday. Stock style pump in stock location. Tightened all hose connections and still leaked. Tightened banjo bolt connections and really sprung a leak!
Outlet fitting was source of leak area, so removed and inspected the pump entirely and could not find anything cracked, etc. Cleaned the pump body and all, then re-installed with same results. Removed the pump.
Then installed my back-up pump. Also stock type. A small drip, again at outlet banjo connection, which I tightened slightly and seems to have stopped now.
Here's my dilemma:
On the stock banjo connections, the Moss and Vicky Brit diagrams show "fiber" washers between the pump and the union, while the Moss shows fiber washers on each side of the banjo union. When I removed the pump, there were washers only on the outer side of the union with no washers between the pump and the union. Moss also shows an "O" ring between the pump body and the union.

need 4 washers total, 1 on each side of the two banjo fittings. Originally red fibre, sometimes you'll see aluminum...but you still need 1 one each side of banjo.

Good article here from Dave DuBois regarding fittings.

Bob - If the pump is an older one, Lloyd is correct, 4 fiber washers are required - one on each side of the banjo fitting. If the pump is a newer one, you need one fiber washer in the recess of the banjo fitting, where the banjo bolt seats and an 'O' ring (017 size) in the recess in the inlet/outlet ports. See the article, New SU Fuel Pumps with 'O' Ring Seals in the SU Fuel Pump Articles section of my web site at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/

Thanks guys. It would appear that the nylon washers failed on my pump at the banjo union. Gonna buy a new pump anyway, as my spare pump shot craps on me at the grocery store today. Guess it sat in reserve a little too long and the diaphragm bit the dust. She clicked away like crazy but no fuel delivery. Such is the reason we have AAA....(and AA)

Dave,
Just purchased a new SU pump (#377-161) for my 74.5 B from my local parts distributor (Ernie's British Cars in Tucson) and it was packed with the "O" rings in the port recesses. Also purchased a new braided Inlet hose (#376-540) with the banjo fitting installed. The brass banjo was flat on both sides, no with indent on the bolt side.
Thanks for your article on the correct assembly of the banjo fittings. My old pump (Non-SU) was working fine, but leaking at the banjo union where a nylon washer was either missing or had failed. Re-installed it before installing the new SU pump just to check it out for use as a road kit "spare" and all is well with the new fiber washers on each side of the banjo union.
