speaking of su's....my 76 had the su in the trunk. the 72 has no holes in the trunk and an aftermarket pump bolted to the frame beside the battery box. where in the world would an original su go? the truck is all nice and sealed with narrrry a hint of a fuel pump location.

thanks!

Hi Phil,
Perhaps some PO had the trunk reworked to close up the hole where the
SU should reside. On my 79, I had the SU but it passed away and I have one of those cubist clickers mounted next to my battery as well. Since the su is still in pieces on my work bench, I have this rather large hole in my trunk.

Maybe he just got tacked a plate over the hole.

As many times as you have been under the car, did you look at the back of the trunk and maybe see some indications of past sheet metal work?

A '72 will have the SU mounted on the underside near the battery box on the right side. Sounds like where your aftermarket pump is now...

'72 fuel pump didn't poke out through trunk...it was up underneath behind the battery box...if you get under, you should see where the hard fuel line from the tank stops & also where the hard fuel line from the engine compartment stops...the fuel pump was attached to the body between them up by the battery box

IN the right-side rear wheel well, on the short bulkhead that forms the rear of the passenger area (and the front of the battery shelf), there should be two captive studs. The SU has an A-frame sort of bracket that wraps around the pump. The two legs of the bracket fit over the two studs and are secured with nuts and washers.
