Three times in a row my attempt to drive the ZB ended after only getting 2 city blocks. The car sputtered but kept running but with no power as long as a kept my foot on the gas pedal. After limping back to the garage and looking things over and restarting, it would idle fine with normal reving of the motor.Off i went again with the same results 3 times getting only the exact distance from the stsrting point! Today i found the culprit, any guesses as to what i found?

I'm having the exact same situation with a GT. Daughters would stall out, after a short drive, would ck under the hood and the see through fuel filter was bone dry! as the pump was making it's normal noise? I'm thinking a vacuum lock?
I'd be interested what you found as the culprit?
BJ
On my car it was caused by a squashed fuel line just to the rear of the front wheel well where
someone carelessly located a jack.
The car ran fine with the 1500 but the restriction wouldn't allow enough fuel to pass to
feed the new 1800 at full throttle/
Last week the Mrs. was driving around Plymouth (Pilgrims Plymouth) and called to tell me that the car would die as if it were running out of gas. She would let is sit for a few minutes and then it would be fine.
She finally got it home and it reeked of fuel. The forward float bowl cover was missing. We replaced the carbs with a DCOE and it was fine.
On the Bs I have historically had issues with rust contamination plugging the lines. That I fix by placing a medium speaker magnet on the bottom of the fuel tank.

I had the same problem. My fuel tank screen was clogged and also had some junk that I need to blow out of the fuel line. After that the problem seamed to be fixed.

The brass float in the float chamber has a pin hole, therefore sinking, starving the carburator. Happened to me last week.
This recently happened on my Volvo 122s... for me it was the Distributor. Jeff set me up and I'm fine now!
Check that the fuel tank is vented properly by opening the filler cap when the problem occurs. if there is a rust problem in the tank, the tank should be cleaned ans sealed instead of relying on filters or magnets to keep the rust particles out of the pump and carburetors.
Cheers,
This happened to me with my BGT, and it turned out to be a sticky needle in the front carb's fuel bowl.
The "culprit" was a clogged banjo bolt on top of the fuel tank.It was only allowing a slight trickle of gas past, enough to idle OK,but not enough to keep up once underway!
Well THAT'S logical... Not fair!
Sure shows to go ya that there are many-many-many ways to mess up a good cruise.
