Just as previous posts' pics have shown, the top of the tank gets the worst rust. I poked my tank on a rusty spot and the punch went right through. What could anyone expect for #20 sheet steel? Although I think I saved the fuel sender (see other fuel sender post). Onward...

New tanks from VB come with a new fuel sender and all the mounting hardware. And for the relatively low cost of them, why bother saving the old one?
Really? How much? I think I can get a tank for abot $170-190. Who can beat that? I can assume that a stripped-down tank is going to be alot cheaper than one that is fitted. As is usual in my case, lack of money forces the final decision. And I think you illuminated the essence of that with the word... "relatively".
Fuel senders go bad also and its better to change it now while the tank is out then to do it under the car. You can also seal it in better while you are rust protecting the tank and then it will truly be "out of sight, out of mind" under the car for years to come.
I just did mine, and I agree ,I ordered mine from VB the whole set-up was 249.00 everything you need, tank, sending unit, all new mounting hardware, strips for on top of tank !!! Very nice little kit!!!
Got the whole set up from Brittek for, I think, $245. Came with everything needed to install the tank and sending unit.
