Gary Lloyd was an early and prolific poster to this forum. He had a quick wit, was a great yarn spinner, and loved to use !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He could instantly make friends wherever he went.
One of his desires was to get a bunch of us to join him for a run up in B.C. After he developed cancer and was in remission, Kim DeBourbon, Rob Lyall, and Gary planned a run. Unfortunately, Gary died two weeks before we were to start. Contributions from board members purchased a bench in his name along the waterfront.
Gary used to stop by our house on his way to some speed races, and we would stay up late visiting about this and that and the other thing. He also stopped on his way to the NAMGBR gathering in St. Louis and left enough oil on my garage floor that if I could have scraped it up there would have been enough for an oil change. His engine totally tanked in WY so he turned around and limped back to Boise, ID with the hope of rebuilding a block that was there. His exploits on that trip were well chronicled here. Instead, he had to fly out to St. L, then fly back to Boise where he picked up his rebuilt car. By the time he got here, he was puking oil again. Opting to continue on, Dick Price followed him from Pendleton to Hermiston, and watched as he headed north for home. On tearing down engine #2, Gary found that the one part that hadn't been done originally although it was supposed to be, was his rods; they hadn't been checked for straightness, and the bend stressed the piston such that the rist pin keeper popped out and scored the cylinder wall.
Who was Gary Lloyd? A great friend.
The :I3: smiley is named after Gary for his infamous behavior at St. Louis.
