Just pulled the tank today on a B that I purchased yesterday. I was sitting in a garage for 23 years. Needless to say, the "gas" that I drained was nasty. Ballpark, how much should it cost to have a radiator shop clean it out? Also pulled the radiator as well to do at the same time - same question - what is reasonable price? Thanks

Shouldn't Be much call around and ask. The fact the parts are out of the car it make the job easier on them.

I had a tank boiled out about a year ago for $25.

Since you have it pulled already and available, first check it out for integrity throughout before you pay to have it boiled out. If it sat that long it may have very thin spots.

Thanks all. Good point on possible thin spots. I will check it out. Thanks

After I removed my tank for cleaning, I decided to do a complete restoration. I purchased a complete kit from KBS products. It contained a cleaner solvent and all the correct chemicles and paint to do an epoxy coating inside and out and finish off with an epoxy paint similiar to POR 15. Kit was about $70 and very complete with brushes and gloves. You can find them on the internet under KBS coatings.

Hi Mark,

I was faced with a similiar situation several months ago. I removed the tank and wanted to test the integrity of the tank before going further. I placed an air hose in the tank and sealed it with rags, duct tape as best possible. I introduced a LOW PRESSURE into the tank and sprayed down the outside with soapy water, looking for any holes, leaks. It turned out well for me, and I was able to proceed with the cleaning process. NO MORE THAN 5 PSI.... or you will have a basketball shaped tank. Don't ask how I know, I learned that about 20 yrs ago.
