Hi All, I know I've seen it somewhere, just can't remember where. The ones I removed were black but I'm not sure that is correct. Started the rebuilt engine for the first time today. It runs perfect except a couple of fuel leaks. No I didn't do the work but I watched a lot. Does that count?

MGA starter and generator were originally painted engine color (dark red). All replacement service parts will be painted black (since the inception of time for MGA's) as these parts are used in many different models of cars. MGA 1500 originally had screw post terminals on the generator. MGA 1600 originally had Lucar push-on terminals on the generator. Ditto for all MGB. Replacement generators for MGA will usually (99%) have Lucar terminals,so the suppliers do not have to invemtory multiple part numbers for similar applications.

Never wishing to argue with MGA guru, but a semi gloss black will win points....
I have never seen a red unit but I am just a babe in the woods compared to Barney...:eyepop:

Most people don't see maroon ancillaries because they have been rebuilt or replaced at some point in the car's history. The components were delivered in satin black, but were installed before the engine was painted. Therefore the "factory correct" color would be maroon including the aluminum end plates. If you really want to be accurate, be sure to get a bunch of over-spray inside the generator, and miss a few spots underneath.

I think I can do that part pretty good if past performance indicates what will happen.
